Are You Anticipating Success?

May 24, 2025•3 min read

Let me put something to you…the art of great work begins with anticipation. It starts with a belief, expectation and prediction that something will occur.

It’s about anticipating the next move, anticipating the next lead, anticipating the next call, anticipating the next question.

And that sense of expectation and anticipation underpins success for a whole host of reasons, so let’s dive on in.

Motivation and drive

Anticipation has this incredible ability to create motivation. With the expectation of an outcome, there’s an inner drive to undertake the necessary activity and get the job done.

You know the intended result, you’re anticipating it and chances are you have a fair idea how to get where you want to go.

Now all you need to do is complete the activity to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you anticipate you will be.

Preparation and planning

Anticipating an outcome or event often leads to better planning and preparation. With the expected result in mind you can ready yourself for it – whether that’s through training, role play, scheduling, or systems and procedures.

In turn, this preparation and planning makes the anticipated outcome even more likely. It’s now become a fixed future reality that you are actively working towards.

Focus and learning

With an anticipated outcome in mind, chances are you become laser focussed. Distractions fall by the wayside. It’s easy to know exactly what needs to be done, including any knowledge or skills that need to be acquired to achieve that result.

This can also help foster a growth mindset where you’re willing to embrace mistakes and learn from them.

Greater fulfillment

Anticipation can also create a greater sense of fulfillment. After all, you’ve foreseen an outcome, set the goals required to reach it and then achieved the aim you hoped for.

Nothing beats that sense of accomplishment, particularly if it involves helping a client achieve the result they hope for as well.

It’s a cycle

Not only does anticipating a result set a chain of action into motion involving drive, planning and growth, it’s also a self-perpetuating cycle.

The reality is anticipation comes with practise and experience. It comes from understanding a result is likely and perhaps even inevitable if you put in the required activity.

This experience also gives rise to confidence, and confidence gives you clarity while moving you to action.

As for action? Well it comes in the form of asking great questions. Great questions start conversations. Conversations provide information. Information reveals what your client wants.

When you know what the client wants, you win. You know what needs to be done.

Get good at asking questions. Get good at anticipating the signposts for buyers and sellers to act. Tap into your anticipation to create the drive and devise the plan that allows you to achieve great results.

Great work starts with anticipation…so think about it, what do you anticipate you can achieve today, and over the days and weeks ahead?
