How To Lock In Your Ideal 2026

January 16, 2026•3 min read

Coming back after the Christmas break, most agents return with good intentions. There’s energy, motivation and a genuine desire to make this year different. New goals have been written down. Plans feel clear. Resolve feels strong.

But here’s the part we don’t talk about enough.

Inspiration isn’t what changes your business. Execution is.

And this second week of January is the moment where that becomes very real. This is the crossroads.

One direction leads back into familiar patterns, where you’re doing what’s comfortable, reacting to the diary, letting the year happen to you.

The other direction is quieter, less exciting, but far more powerful. It’s where you lock in the systems and decisions that shape the rest of 2026.

Motivation never lasts

The truth is, if we rely on motivation alone, it won’t last. It never does. Once the inbox fills up, listings demand attention and the pace picks up, our willpower fades. What remains are the systems you’ve put in place, or the lack of them.

That’s why systems matter. They keep you moving when you don’t feel motivated. They remove daily decision-making. They keep you consistent long after the January energy wears off.

This week isn’t about doing everything. It’s about choosing the few things that actually matter.

What would move the needle?

Ask yourself: what would genuinely move the needle this year? Not 10 things. Just one or two. Maybe it’s tightening your prospecting rhythm. Maybe it’s finally setting up a follow-up system you can rely on. Maybe it’s how you engage past clients so nothing falls through the cracks.

Once you’ve identified those moves, anchor them into your calendar immediately. Not next week. Not when things “slow down”. If it’s not scheduled now, it won’t survive February.

Where to start

A strong starting point is to lock in your prospecting blocks for the next three months. Same days, same times, no negotiation.

Then schedule a proper implementation day. This is a set date on the calendar with no appointments where you build systems, clean up your database, set templates and put structure around how you work.

This isn’t busy work. It’s how momentum is created.

Clear, measurable targets

It’s also the right time to set clear, measurable targets for the year ahead. Not vague ambitions, but real numbers you can reverse-engineer into weekly actions. And while you’re there, take a look at how you’re communicating with clients. Where are conversations dropping off? What can be systemised so consistency doesn’t rely on memory?

What you do over the next few weeks matters more than most realise. The habits you lock in now will quietly shape the year. The systems you build will carry you through busy periods when others start slipping. That’s how strong years are created - early, intentionally, and without a lot of noise.

Which group are you in?

Some agents will drift back into old habits. Others will wait for the “right time” to start. And a smaller group will make a few clear decisions now and let those decisions guide the rest of the year.

Choose which group you want to be in.

Because 2026 won’t be won in March or April. It’s being set up right now.
