How to Navigate the Big Hits and Bounce Back

March 15, 2024•3 min read

Blame it on a full moon, a mad world, or the fact sometimes people can just be unkind, but inevitably life throws the occasional punch.

And if those knocks feel relentless, it can all start catching up, leaving you feeling depleted, demoralised and questioning ‘what’s next?’.

So what do you do when it feels like the hits keep coming and it’s getting increasingly hard to bounce back?

We’ve all been there

It doesn’t matter how positive, resilient or stoic you are, there will be occasional times when it feels as if you can’t catch a break.

We’ve all been there, myself included. And it can be tough to retain your perspective when the relentless punches feel like they’re adding up.

But when it starts to feel like you’re struggling, it’s time to address things head-on.

Your support network matters

A solid support network is a major asset throughout life and your career, but never is it more important than when you feel the chips are down.

This network, which might include family, friends, trusted peers and mentors, is the group that will help you gain perspective when things aren’t quite going to plan or when you feel the deck is stacked against you.

But it’s not just about turning to those you can feel you can trust. It’s important to also seek the strength, knowledge and resilience within that allows you to ‘bounce’ back quickly.

And that’s where it pays to tap into your experience or the insight of those who are experienced around you.

In my case, 37 years plus of being a business owner has taught me a whole lot about navigating the 'punches,' and knowing how to get back in the game.

It’s in the attitude

If things are feeling a little rocky and it’s all proving a bit tough, the last thing you might want is a pep talk on how to react.

And I get it. I too get angry, feel frustrated and at times let those emotions get the better of me.

But…we all know deep down it’s not what happens to you but rather how you react that really matters.

It’s your 'attitude' rather than the situation itself and it’s also your ability to focus on the areas you can control, rather than attempting to control what’s happening around you.

Big breakthroughs come from big hits

It’s also important to recognise, often the biggest knocks lead to the greatest achievements.

And I know that sounds glib, but I also know from experience that my biggest breakthroughs have come when I've had the biggest punches land on me.

While they are uncomfortable and painful at the time, there is always, and I mean ALWAYS a better future ahead because of it.

Resilience and fortitude required

The real estate market is changing and it will continue to shift.

In order to traverse this uncertain market and an uncertain period, we need to build resilience and fortitude.

Chances are we will all see an increase in 'punches' coming our way, but setbacks are a natural part of the journey towards achieving our goals.

I've learnt to channel my negative energy when those setbacks happen into positive 'take action' energy. I encourage you to learn to do the same.

‌Your support network and personal energy is more important than ever. And remember, always be kind no matter what happens to you.
