It’s an Outbound Game
If you want to win in real estate, there’s no sitting on the sidelines waiting for the play to come to you.
You need to play an outbound game - a game where you’re on the offensive, not the defensive, and where you’re proactive and strategic in what you do.
But what exactly is the difference and how can you ensure you’re on the front foot not the back when it comes to winning at real estate?
It’s about doing the work
In real estate practise, those who choose to play ‘defense’, waiting for the ‘ball to come to them’, will lose every time.
They’re on the back foot, not the front foot, relying on chance to drive their career. Chance isn’t consistent, it isn’t proactive, it doesn’t put you in control of the outcome, and it doesn’t make for a steady, rewarding career.
To build consistency in a role where you not only sell the product but source it, you need to play the offense, which involves outbound work.
It’s proactive not reactive, and it creates results that multiply over time.
The right time in the right place
‘Outbound’ means doing the work at the right time in the right place.
And real estate is all about ‘outbound’ work. It involves reaching out and influencing strangers to become future clients.
It’s working ahead of the curve and making potential clients aware that you are an active and successful agent who sells homes.
It’s amplifying and leveraging ‘For Sale’ and ‘Sold’ boards.
It’s that burst of calls to inform your established clients of a recent result in their neighbourhood.
It’s the thousands of letterbox drops and social media campaigns.
It’s the annual anniversary call to update contacts on the market.
It’s the regular market reports, client check-ins and ongoing updates.
But let’s face it, that’s nothing new. We all know that. It’s real estate 101.
The magic shift
What all agents want is that point in time when you become an ‘attraction’ agent. This is when the magic shift from ‘outbound’ to ‘inbound’ occurs.
It’s the tipping point which sees strangers and established clients calling you directly and inviting you to sell their property unopposed.
Of course, we all want that.
However, only those who have the patience and discipline to do the outbound work in the first instance will ever achieve the inbound.
That’s why we call it an outbound game.
Consistent outbound work is how you move from being average and just one of the pack to earning the reputation of being the ‘go-to person’ in your marketplace.
Every agent wants to be an attraction agent. Every agent aspires to be the go-to person in their marketplace.
But inbound never occurs without time spent laying the foundations through outbound work.
Only when you have positioned yourself on the front foot, put in the legwork and played a solid offensive game of consistent real estate strategy and skill, will the ball naturally find its way to you.
Today’s the day to pick up that ball and run with it. It’s the opportunity to put in the hard yards and play the outbound game with the end goal of becoming an ‘attraction’ agent firmly in your sights.
