Let’s Talk Needle Movers

April 04, 2025•3 min read

If you’re looking to increase your results and up your game, it’s important to focus on activities that really move the needle.

What do I mean? Well, these are the things that quickly reap solid results and accelerate your success.

They are the most valuable actions and activities you can do to generate super high returns.

Knowing what these are and then executing those activities is critical. So let’s take a quick spin through the obvious and not so obvious ‘needle movers’ for sales agents.

The obvious needle movers

Obvious needle movers are the things we know we should be doing. These are the daily activities that should be built into our routine and are non-negotiable.

They include:

Face to face appointments – Including appraisals, listing presentations, and networking.

Established client re-engagement – Such as newsletters, ‘just touching base’ calls, market updates, anniversary cards/calls.

Consistent & effective processes – Including a tidy database, triggers for client re-engagement and follow-up processes to ensure people are called back, given feedback etc.

These processes should streamline your operation, ensuring nothing is overlooked or left to chance, and that everyone on your team is on the same page.

Asking for the business – If you don’t ask you don’t get, so ensure you are actually taking that all-important step of asking for the business.

Protecting your time – Your time (and energy) is important, so use it well. Utilise time blocking techniques, start your day early, and finish your day with tomorrow’s list.

The above are some of the obvious needle movers. They’re the things we talk about time and again that should be built into your work routine.

That said, there are also needle movers that might not be so obvious. And despite the fact they’re not staring you right in the face, they still set you up for success in both work and life.

Five not so obvious needle movers

Not so obvious needle movers are often the little things that set you apart from the crowd.

They’re not hard, they’re not time consuming, but they make a major difference to your mindset and the wellbeing of people around you.

They include:

Good old fashioned manners – Good manners cost you nothing and a simple please and thank you will get you a long way in life, both professionally and personally.

Be present, be engaged – Again this applies to both your career and personal life. Take the time to be in the moment. It ensures you really listen to people and connect with them.

Professionally, this allows you to really understand someone's goals and help them achieve them. Personally, it shows the people around you that you value them and the time you spend with them.

The reality is, people rarely remember what you say, but they do recall how you made them feel.

Own your mistakes – Life happens, and no-one is perfect. But if mistakes are made, be proactive. Get on the front foot, pick up the phone, and apologise when necessary. Owning your mistakes and saying sorry for them goes a long way.

Forgive others – We’re all human and no-one knows what’s going on in someone else’s world. Forgive others when they make a mistake, or are a little short.

Meditation and mindfulness - Be selfish and take time out for yourself. Minutes of meditation build resilience and bring calm to each day.

Identify your needle movers.

Chances are, you have needle movers beyond what’s mentioned above. Identify them. Use them. These are the activities and habits that change the game in your favour.

Double down on them, keep adding to them. Eliminate the habits and activities that do not move the needle and instead distract you.

And stick to it, be disciplined. Because when the needle starts to move, success can happen fast.
